The Besom

Oxford

The Besom in Oxford enables individuals and groups from the Oxford Churches to use their time, money and skills to help the vulnerable and poor in Oxford.

It started in 2000 with a small group praying for the homeless, broken and lonely who live just round the corner from many of us. We then started to establish links with various social workers and charities working with those in need across Oxford and set up pilot projects and van deliveries for volunteers to get involved with.

From this our work and contacts have grown and grown and that brings us up to the present day, where in the past year The Besom in Oxford has facilitated 20 painting and gardening projects and a further 10 deliveries of good quality furniture.

As a team we can testify to the fact that whenever we are hard pushed God somehow gives one of us more time that week for The Besom despite us all working full time in other jobs. We believe that God has a massive heart for the poor in this city and that through getting involved with the Besom you will be amazed at his timing, provision and sovereignty in every situation.

How you can get involved

Do a project

Get a group of friends together or your small group from church, let us know how much time you have, size of group and type of project you’d prefer and we will try to find you a match.

Give time or skills

  • Use and develop your skills in The Besom Team
  • Help with a van delivery
  • Come and pray with us or ask to receive our weekly prayer email

Give things

If you have really good quality second hand, or even new (!), furniture and household items to give, do contact us. At present we have a delivery one Saturday a month

Give Money

You can specify how you would like the money to be used. For example - equipment, paint when a group can't afford it, administrative running costs, van deliveries, etc.

We’d love to hear from you. Please call The Besom in Oxford on 07986 983350.
