Manchester

The Besom in Manchester started in 2005. For the moment, we principally serve South Manchester though some of our projects have reached out to Salford and East Manchester. We have a growing number of link churches across South Manchester and Cheadle and plan to start serving the Stockport area in 2009.

What we do

We act as a bridge between those who want to give and those in need in our community. We believe that by getting actively involved, our eyes and hearts are opened, and we understand more of God's heart for those in need. The first steps to helping are often the hardest because we don't know how to or where the need is. Besom aims to make those first steps possible and enjoyable.

How to get involved

Give time as an individual
There are many ways you can give your time or skills individually (such as befriending, teaching a recipient how to cook or clean, read and write etc), just let us know what you would like to do and we will try to find something suitable. Alternatively you could help on our regular van trips, collecting and delivering good quality items of furniture and household goods. Again, let us know when you are able to go out on the van and we will organise something for you.

Give time as a group
Groups can get involved by giving time and skills to painting, decorating, cleaning and gardening projects. They are a great way to serve others, offer help and get to know people better.

Give things
We currently have no storage space so we only accept things if they can be matched to a recipient fairly quickly. If you have top quality furniture and/or household items, then feel free to give us a call and we will prayerfully try to find a suitable recipient. You would be amazed how often God surprises us by matching gifts to someone in need in a short time.

Give money
You can also give money to Besom. Please specify what you want the money spent on and make cheques payable to The Besom in Manchester.

Prayer

We meet on the second Monday of every month to pray for the recipients, givers and projects. Representatives from our link churches join us every second month. We also circulate a Prayer Letter every two months so that our friends can be praying even if they can’t make it to meetings.
