East Belfast

East Belfast Besom started in September 2004 serving the East Belfast inner city and even, on a few occasions, beyond.

What we do

We accept clothes, toys, furniture, kitchen equipment and other household items and these are given away, usually in response to requests from Social Services, Simon Community, etc. Volunteers come together in our warehouse on Tuesday afternoons to sort, iron and pray. We also have a bunch of helpers to wash, iron and mend clothes at home.

We get involved in cleaning, decorating and gardening too. Home Groups from Willowfield Parish Church are ‘on call’ for these jobs.

We have a steadily growing army of volunteers and are seeing God move and soften peoples’ hearts to the plight of the poor.

How you can be involved:

As well as giving things you can:

  • Help collect and deliver goods to homes
  • Give time and decorating/gardening skills
  • Be involved in visiting to assess needs
  • Offer help to wash, iron or mend at home
  • Be a prayer partner

“On one day we had a request to help furnish 2 flats for single mums being re-housed. Among many other things we needed 7 beds! The very next day we had a phone call to say a lady had died and her family wanted to give the contents of her flat to ‘a good cause’. God just blows your mind!”

Core Team Member

“As we took some furniture to a lone mum with 2 kids, I’ll never forget the smile on a little boy’s face as he jumped up and down laughing and saying: ‘Is all this for us?’ Before this he had been sleeping on the floor.”
