Ealing

Besom in Ealing started operations in 2001. We serve the local communities of Ealing, Acton, Greenford and Northolt. In our first three years, givers have helped around 70 local families.

What we do

Besom in Ealing accepts gifts of good quality clothes, children’s toys and books, kitchen equipment, furniture and other household items. We want to bless families with the very best! Clothes, toys and small household items are sorted and packed in our shed, then delivered to families. We have a team that sorts on some Thursday evenings and Friday mornings. Homegroups also often give an evening to help sort clothes. Van runs are done every Thursday evening, to collect and deliver furniture.

Homegroups from Ealing churches get involved in gardening and decorating projects. These help families living in shabby, run-down accommodation to improve, brighten and beautify their homes, making them more comfortable and pleasant places to live.

Each December, women’s small groups make up Christmas hampers and deliver them to families we have helped during the year.

Generally, the families we help are referred by social services and other agencies. We have also linked up with the Ealing churches soup kitchen. We take clothes there, for the people coming to the soup kitchen to choose from.

God’s heart for the poor

Through all this we aim to help people to understand more of God’s heart for giving to the poor. Prayer is vital to our work. We are amazed and encouraged by the way God provides when we call on him, matching things given with things needed.

How you can be involved:

Call us on 07766 072 150 if you would like to get involved. As well as giving things, you can give time on weekdays, in the evenings or on a Saturday:

  • Giving things
  • Helping on the van run to deliver furniture
  • Sorting and selecting clothes, toys and kitchen items to give away
  • Visiting families to assess what needs they have
  • Liaising with social workers and planning collections and deliveries
  • Decorating or gardening projects
  • Delivering small items by car
  • Many more opportunities!

"I was delighted to sort some of the Besom clothes for the soup kitchen. We prayed before and during sorting. I strongly felt God saying ‘be generous’ so I took all the warm clothing that there was. Brand new socks had also been given. The people at the soup kitchen tried on the clothes and everything went. One man kept checking to see if the clothes were free. Another said ‘you give us more than soup you know…it feels like you really care’. Seeing God in action was amazing for all involved. God was in it from beginning to end"
