Cambridge

We have a new website which can be reached at: www.thebesomincambridge.org  Please go to this for more detailed information for potential givers and support workers.

The Besom in Cambridge started operations in late 2006.

Cambridge is a city renowned for academic excellence and affluence, but its glossy postcard exterior conceals the lives of many people in real need. The Besom aims to make a bridge between these people and God’s church in Cambridge. There are all kinds of ways in which members and groups from Cambridge churches can get involved and make a genuine, lasting difference to people’s lives.

Giving Time as a Group

Probably Besom’s most well-known (and popular!) form of giving is as part of a group. The Besom provides a wide variety of opportunities for teams of people to reach out into the community and help others in practical ways. Members of several Cambridge churches participate regularly in projects such as garden tidying and decorating. These projects are a brilliant opportunity to forge relationships with recipients and with each other: what better way to experience fellowship than with a paintbrush in your hand and the Holy Spirit in your heart?

Giving Time as an Individual

The Besom in Cambridge operates out of a warehouse on the edge of town. We are always praying for people to help run the ins and outs of Besom during the week; whether it’s helping with administration and phone calls or driving our beautiful white van, we would love to have you as part of the team. If you are able to give time as an individual, please contact us and we will find where your time can best be spent.

Giving Things

One of Besom’s main ministries is collecting and distributing furniture. We never charge our recipients for what we give them and we do regular van collections from those who would like to give good quality household items. Let us know what you have and we would love to take it from you and give it to someone who really needs it!

Giving Money

Any amount, large or small, will be well used. For example, some givers could direct funds to be used to buy paint and other supplies for decorating projects while others are happy for their giving to go towards our admin costs.

Prayer

“Unless the LORD builds the house, its builders labour in vain.” (Psalm 127:1) We are dependent on God for everything we do and so prayer is one of the most important ways in which you can be involved in Besom. If you would like to join our list of prayer supporters, please let us know.

How you can be involved:

If you or your small/community group would like to get involved in a project,
If you would like to give new or nearly new things,
If you would like us to help find a project to fund, or make a donation to Besom.
If you would like to be added to our list for regular prayer updates.
Email thebesomincambridge@gmail.com if you would like to get involved or call us on 01223 246438, but we prefer an email!

"A day working through Besom has renewed in me a strong sense of the importance of community. It's made me determined to try and be better at building bridges between people rather than putting up barriers - and the fact that Besom allows you to do that while at the same time making a small difference to someone's life just makes it an even greater idea. I can't commend it enough. Give it a go, I'm sure you'll be surprised!"

Time Giver

“There are very few more valuable things you could do. People in my situation end up feeling so helpless and so hopeless and it’s such a blessing. I don’t think you could do anything better."
