Barnet group Boy with table

Barnet

The Besom in Barnet started in May 2003. We serve the London Borough of Barnet.

What we do

We act as a bridge between those who want to give and those in need in our community. We believe that by getting actively involved, our eyes and hearts are opened, and we understand more of God's heart for those in need. The first steps to helping are often the hardest because we don't know how to or where the need is. Besom aims to make those first steps possible and enjoyable.

How to get involved:

Give things

The Besom in Barnet accepts good quality furniture and household items. We believe that it benefits both the giver and the recipient to only pass on items in top condition.

Give time as an individual
Individuals can get involved by giving time on the van, which goes out on Saturday mornings, to collect and deliver the gifts. Helping those in need can be a rewarding experience, and we have great fun driving around Barnet in the van. We are often amazed by the perfect match between gifts given and people's need as God provides for those in our community.

Give time as a group

Groups can get involved by giving time and skills to decorating and gardening projects. This blesses people who need a helping hand, and can be a valuable shared experience.

Prayer support

You could become part of our prayer network and pray for The Besom, the churches it serves and the recipients and social workers we work with.

"I was challenged by the incredible need of the two young people to whom we delivered the furniture, and their real gratitude for what we were doing, I was impressed with the time givers' energy on a particularly hot day"

Besom Time Giver

"I'm just emailing to say thank you very much for the furniture that you delivered on Saturday. I have just spoken to my client and she is over the moon. Thank you again for all your good work, you really are helping the young people of Barnet, and it's so refreshing not to have to fill out hundreds of forms just to get somebody some furniture!"
