The Besom

Gateshead

The Besom in Gateshead began in July 2007 and serves people throughout Gateshead. So far, joint projects have taken place between Beacon Lough and Durham Road Baptist Churches.

What We Do

The Besom in Gateshead acts as a bridge that helps people get out into their community to serve those in need.

The Besom is unlike any other form of organisation in that it focuses not on the needs waiting to be filled, but on the giver. The energy source is not a well that runs dry, but an ever-flowing stream. Because of this, it does not fall prey to "compassion fatigue" like other forms of social action.

How you can get involved

Giving money
If you want to offer money to something that concerns you, you can be assured that 100% of what you offer will go to that exact need. Just get in touch with us and we can talk through the process.

Giving time
The Besom makes it easy for you to give time in whatever way is best for you. You choose how much time you are able to offer, what you offer it to, and when you want to offer it.

As a Group
Get a group of friends together or a small group from church to reach out as one body into your local community. We can organise projects for you according to your abilities. Christians in Gateshead have been involved in decorating, cleaning, gardening, helping elderly and disabled people, supporting single parent families and much more.

As an Individual
The Besom will help you use the gifts God has given you to show His love to others. We are flexible and open to ideas!

Quote

"Margaret* is delighted; her kids are delighted with all that has been done. The difference the work made to the whole room could be seen - the room is transformed. What was done seems to have made a difference to Margaret herself. The love and hard work that was shown will go a long way towards helping her manage each and every day."
